The hidden cost nobody talks about: post-production
A client books you for a one-day corporate shoot. You quote $800, thinking that's fair for an 8-hour day. What you don't account for: 3 hours of pre-production calls, 2 hours of scouting, and 18 hours of editing, color grading, audio sync, and revisions.
That's 31 hours for $800. You just made $25/hour — before taxes, gear depreciation, and software subscriptions. After all that, you might be at $12/hour. Less than minimum wage.
The post-production trap
Videographers consistently underestimate post time. Color grading a wedding film alone takes 6–10 hours. A 2-minute brand video might have 30 hours of editing behind it. When you charge for "filming," you're giving away the most skilled work for free.
This calculator forces you to account for every phase — pre-production, production, post, and revisions — so your rate actually reflects the full scope of your work.
